What it tracks

Each dosha and shuddhi is checked at every moment of the search. When active, it is Benefic or Malefic at one of four strengths: Minimal, Normal, Severe or Extreme. The same labels appear on every result.

Shuddhis

Add to a window's score when favorable, take away when not.

  • Lagna Shuddhi

    Counts 5×

Planets well placed from the marriage lagna, with none in a house to avoid.

  • Tribala Shuddhi

    Counts 2×

The transiting Sun, Moon and Jupiter, judged from the bride's and the groom's natal Moon signs.

Doshas

Take points away when present.

  • Vedha

A planet piercing the Moon's nakshatra on the Panchashalaka chakra.

  • Laata

A planet's kick (laata) landing on the Moon's nakshatra.

  • Paata

The Moon's and the Sun's nakshatras forming a Paata pair.

  • Kranti Samya

The Moon and the Sun at equal declination.

  • Dagdha Tithi

A tithi burnt by the Sun's sign.

  • Upgraha

The Moon's nakshatra afflicted by an upagraha, counted from the Sun's.

  • Ekargala

A malefic yoga with the Moon an odd number of nakshatras from the Sun.

  • Mrityu Panchaka

The Sun in a Mrityu baana degree of its sign.

How the score works

A single moment

The search is divided into moments at every event that can change a dosha or shuddhi: the Moon entering a new nakshatra or pada, the tithi or yoga changing, the lagna moving into the next sign, and so on. Within a moment nothing changes.

Each active dosha or shuddhi is worth a fraction of a point by its strength, added when Benefic and taken away when Malefic. Lagna Shuddhi is then multiplied by five and Tribala Shuddhi by two. The moment's score is the total.

Points for each strength

Minimal¼ point
Normal½ point
Severe¾ point
Extreme1 point

Windows and days

You set the shortest window the ceremony needs, from 15 minutes to 12 hours. Every window of that length is scored by the lowest moment inside it, so a strong hour cannot hide a weak ten minutes.

A one-hour window from 10:00 to 11:00
  1. 10:00

    +3.5

  2. 10:18

    +4.0

  3. 10:41

    −1.0

  4. 10:52

    +2.0

Window score −1.0: the dip at 10:41 sets it, however good the rest of the hour.

A day scores as its best window, and days are ranked by that score. When several windows tie for best, all of them are listed. A window that starts late in the evening can run past midnight.

The ranking is relative to the dates you searched. It is not a verdict on a date, and the doshas and shuddhis behind every window are shown so you can apply your own judgment.
